Welcome to Warriewood Nippers đ,
I hope you had a great school holidays and the kids managed to re-charge (I know you probably didnât..).
Nippers season will start this Sunday the 18th of October at 10am at Warriewood beach, less than a week!!!
I am looking forward to meeting you there and to a great season ahead.
Please find here some info about our Nippers program. You are always welcome to come and see me, call or email if you have any questions. I wear a grey polo with Nippers President on the back.
Meeting point:
We will meet on Warriewood beach, in the area marked in the attached photo HERE. We will mark the area with coloured teardrop flags, please meet at the flag with the same colour of your nipper cap.
After a quick briefing, the nippers will split in age groups ad Age Managers will organise activities with the support of parents / guardians which are required to stay with the nippers at all time.
Parking:
Parking in the beach car park is extremely limited, I strongly recommend to park along the streets above the beach and walk down.
What to bring:
- Cap and high vis rashie: Nippers must wear their cap and the high viz rashie (above any other clothing) for the whole duration of their nippers session, whether they are in or out of the water. Please mark the nippers first name on the cap with an permanent marker. If you donât have the cap or the high vis rashie, you can purchase them from the uniform shop in the club function hall (see attachment). The uniform shop will be open Sunday at 9am. Please be there early to purchase since there might be a queue.
- Water bottle
- Sun screen
- Swim goggles: recommended for water activities, mainly under 9 up.
- Neoprene rash vest or wetsuit: recommended if your nipper doesnât enjoy the cool water temperature at the beginning of the season. For younger groups, we do our best to try and do water activities towards the end of the session.
Activities:
- Depending on conditions and the age, activities will be on the beach and in the water, if water conditions are deemed safe by Surf Life Saving Patrol. Activities are often organised as games tailored to each age group.
Safety:
- Water activities are coordinated by a water safety team managed by three water safety coordinators. All water safety members hold either a Surf Rescue Certificate or a Bronze Medallion Certificate which is required to be in the water with nippers during nippers sessions.
- Surf Life Savers patrol the beach and the water during nippers. The club has inflatable rescue boats (IRB), and one drone which will be used to patrol the water as required.
When does nippers finish:
Nippers sessions will finish no later than 11:30am. When the session is finished, as instructed by the Age Manager, please remove the cap if you would like to stay on the beach or go in the water. By doing so, the surf life saving patrol team understands that the child is not in a nippers session anymore. If you need to leave earlier, you must inform your Age Manager before leaving.
Showers:
There are hot showers in the Surf Club available for members only. Children are not allowed in the showers without adult supervision. As a courtesy to other members please minimise the time in the showers. Also, since the shower sewer runs on a pump, please rinse the sand off in the ocean before having a shower.
Parents involvement:
The nippers program is all run by volunteers, and most of the volunteers are nippers parents. Your help is not only appreciated but required for a successful nippers season. We organise rosters for beach activities set up, pack up and BBQ support. We will communicate the roster during the season.
And you are welcome to be involved more: the Bronze Medallion and other certificates are a great way to improve your skills, learn about first aid and water safety and give back to the community.
Bring a Buddy:
Do you know of someone who is interested about nippers but would like to try first?
If you have friends who would like to try, please share them this link to register to this Sunday session as a trial.
