Hi to all Warriewood Club Members,
Incredibly no sooner have we welcomed in the start of the season that here we are wishing each other a Merry Christmas for tomorrow.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
My apologies for seemingly leaving this until Christmas Eve to provide you with an update of happenings around our club, but it was only yesterday that Cameron our Vice President and myself were able to meet with council and in turn be able to provide a much-anticipated answer to the question on everyone’s lips.
Now things in construction can always change as you know, and I was always led to believe there are only two completion dates in construction, Christmas and Easter, so since Christmas will have passed let’s hope it is not the later. Always allowing for some leeway, as a club we are working towards the following dates.
- Handover from council of main build – week of the 20th January. The contractors have finished as of today for Christmas and still require a week or two next year for completion of minor parts.
- Mid-February completion of fit out and delivery of furniture for internal and external.
- We are then aiming for an official club opening event to be Saturday the 07th March toward the end of summer.
Please keep an ear out for updates in the New Year and pencil in the date for opening night.
We are incredibly excited to see the potential this renovation will have in being able to bring our members closer together in so many ways. Complementing initiatives being worked on include a new and improved website, a member’s card with benefits and more recognition for our patrolling members. Stay tuned for updates in these areas as we look to rebuild our club and our membership base.
JUNIOR AND SENIOR CLUB COMMITTEES
It goes without saying that I would like to recognise both our Junior and Senior Committee members for their tireless work in ensuring our club has made a great start to the season as we enter our busiest months. Special mentions to Val Corniani our Nipper President and all the Junior Committee for amazing first half of the nipper’s season. To Tracey Hare-Boyd, our CTO for delivering the new surf life saving CPR. This implementation of this Australia wide to all surf lifesaving clubs was a massive challenge for trainers, involving countless 2 -3 hour sessions, multiple times a week to ensure everyone was proficient heading into the New Year and to Craig our club captain for ensuring that as a club we were compliant in all areas.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Thank you to all who have volunteered for our Christmas Day patrol. This is a opt in day comprising of 2 – 3 hour shifts. It is never an easy day to continue to ensure our beach is safe and the turnout for this year has been fantastic so thank you to all involved.
Mark your calendars for the annual Australia Day eve volleyball competition. If the last few years are anything to go by the competitive spirit will be in full swing – stay tuned for more details and times but should be scheduled for Sunday the 25th January.
Also, the Annual Warriewood Ocean Swim from Turrimetta to Warriewood will be scheduled for early May so start training now.
SPONSORS
Thank you also of course to all our sponsors who help make the wheels of our club go around. As a club we are forever grateful for your support in helping to ensure we have the equipment to keep our beach safe.
UNITY
A sincere thank you to all our members who joined us for our moment of silence to honor the victims of the Bondi Beach tragedy. Seeing our club stand together in such respectful solidarity was a powerful reminder of the strength we have when we support one another. Our thoughts remain with the victims, their families, and the entire Bondi community during this incredibly difficult time.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who helps in enabling us to put the flags up each week, ie: you. Every member within our club contributes in some way to making sure we provide a strong, professional service to those who visit our beach each year.
On behalf of our club, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas full of memories with family and friends. Whether you are staying around home or travelling, have a safe holiday break and we look forward to seeing you on the beach or around the club in the New Year.
Wishing you all the best,
Mocca
